Repertoire There are more than 300 arrangements in Nacka Big Band’s repertoire, which has been divided into a ”Dance Folder” and a ”Concert Folder”. ”The Dance Folder” In this folder there are both so-called standards and original pieces. Most of the arrangements are by the former leader Stig Olsson and some are by the guitarist/-violinist Jan Hellberg and drummer/-leader Eddie Svavarsson. Otherwise Nacka Big Band is linked to the legendary, sonorous big band dance music played by Count Basie, Woody Herman, Glenn Miller and Les Brown and it is much jazzier dance music than today’s electrified dance bands achieve. When Nacka Big Band plays at dances it is usually reinforced by singers: Sofia Berg-Böhm and the legendary Bertil Englund. ”The Concert Folder” In this folder there are, besides original pieces and arrangements by such legendary bandleaders as Thad Jones, Jerry Mulligan and lately charts by the american trombonist/-pianist Jim Martin. These arrangements give the soloists more space to “stretch out”. Nacka Big Band has formidable soloists such as trumpeters Ronnie Farsund, Anders Ellman and Mario Dellacha, the saxophonists Jim Leopardo, Gunnar Andersson och Halldór Pálsson (who has played with, among others, ABBA and Björn Skifs by the way) the trombonist Daniel Johansson, the pianist Mats Lundwall and guitarist/-violinist Jan Hellberg to name a few.
